Levelers

Quick answer: For 20 m² of 60 × 60 cm tiles you need about 220 levelling clips (11 per m²) and 74 wedges.

How the calculation works

Pick the tile dimensions and joint width, then enter the area. The calculator looks up how many levelling clips are needed per m² for that format, multiplies by the area and works out wedges and packs.

Formula and assumptions

Clips = area × clips per m² (depends on tile format), rounded up. Wedges = clips ÷ 3, rounded up. Packs are rounded up. The per-m² figure is an indicative value from the table in the app, not a system manufacturer's specification.

Worked example

Area 20 m², tile 60 × 60 cm: the table gives 11 clips/m². Clips 20 × 11 = 220. Wedges 220 ÷ 3 = 73.3 → 74.

More worked examples

  • Area 12 m², tile 60 × 60 cm: 11 clips/m² × 12 = 132 clips. Wedges 132 ÷ 3 = 44.
  • Area 35 m², tile 60 × 60 cm: 11 × 35 = 385 clips. Wedges 385 ÷ 3 = 128.3 → 129.

What affects real consumption

  • Larger formats need fewer clips per m² but a flatter substrate.
  • Offset (e.g. 1/2) laying needs more clips at the joints.
  • Cuts along walls and the joint width change the real count.

Common mistakes

  • Using the value for one tile format on another; the number of clips per m² depends on the format.
  • Using levelling clips on a very uneven substrate instead of levelling it first.
  • Forgetting extra clips at joints with offset (for example 1/2) laying and at cuts along walls.

Frequently asked questions

What are levelling clips and wedges?

A system that aligns the edges of neighbouring tiles while the adhesive sets; the clip stays in the joint and the wedge is removed after curing.

Should I add a reserve?

Yes – some clips break or get lost when removed. A few percent extra is common, but it depends on your system and experience.

How many clips for 50 m² of 60 × 60 cm tiles?

11 clips/m² × 50 = 550 clips, and 550 ÷ 3 = 183.3 → 184 wedges.

Why are there fewer wedges than clips?

The calculator takes one wedge per three clips, as in its formula. Depending on the system, wedges can be reused, so follow the manufacturer's instructions.
